Jerry Grimes

1945-2018

Jerry Glen Grimes was born on a spring day on the 29th of March in 1945 and left this earth two days shy of his 73rd birthday. But the birth and death of this beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and PaPaw is not nearly as relevant as all the days and nights he lived to the fullest between those two dates.

Funeral service for Mr. Grimes will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Miller Family Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Snyder Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Jerry was the second oldest of four boys and was born in Cooper. After several moves in childhood, the family settled in Brownfield, where he later joined the United States Air Force.

Jerry could always be found in, under and around anything with a motor, but had a lifelong love of the ’55 Chevy and anything with two wheels. To say he was a Jack-of-all-trades is an understatement, with him being a helicopter mechanic, an MP in the Air Force, fabricator for General Dynamics, pipe inspector in Egypt and the owner/operator of his own business as a pipe inspector and barbecue joint. After these endeavors, he ended up doing the one thing he said he’d never do, become a truck driver. He did this for many years with Ezell-Key Feeds and drove a tanker until retirement.

Throughout his life, he could always be found at the local coffee shop visiting and laughing, with pen in hand to illustrate his stories. He loved his family and truly adored his grandkids, as they did their PaPaw.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard William Grimes and Dorothy Faye Grimes; two brothers, Bill Grimes and Jimmy Grimes; and two sisters-in-law, Carol Grimes and Jackie Grimes.

Survivors include his loving wife of 28 years, Theresa Grimes; four children, Keith Grimes and his wife, Kim, of Temple, N.H., Kim Davis and her husband, B.C., of Weatherford, Kale Grimes and his wife, Candice, of Snyder and  Kana Cole and her husband, Mitchell, of Dunn; one brother, Ricky Grimes of Sweetwater; his eight wonderful grandchildren, Kamryn, Lila, Kolton, Colt, Delia, Ashley, Amanda and Amber; one great-granddaughter, Amaya; several nieces and nephews; and two lifelong friends, Leon Gibbs and Jerry Jackson.
