Johnny Garza


Juan “Johnny” Garza, 60, of Snyder, died Monday, March 12, 2018.

Funeral mass for Mr. Garza was at 2 p.m. today at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church. Burial followed at Snyder Cemetery under the direction of Miller Family Funeral Home.

Born on May 21, 1957 in Waco to Guadalupe and Maria (Casteneda) Garza, he married Erminia Benitez.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Erminia Garza of Snyder; three daughters, Monica Garza and Stephanie Garza, both of Snyder, and Veronica Delapaz and her husband, Jeff, of Colorado City; one son, Arthur Garza and his wife, Isabell, of Snyder; three sisters, Mary Helen Ferguson of Troy, Elidia Castro of Killeen and Irma Melo of Belton; one brother, A.C. Garza of Troy; eight grandchildren, Melanie Delapaz, Austin Garza, Tarryn Velasquez, Allison Florez, Jeffrey Delapaz Jr., Isaac Delapaz, Eliseo Medrano and Andrew Medrano; three great-grandchildren, Xavier Garza, Zara Velasquez and Brooklyn Delapaz; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Douglas Merritt


Douglas Herbert Merritt, 82 of Copperas Cove and formerly of San Saba and Snyder, died Monday, March 12, 2018 in Temple.

Funeral service for Mr. Merritt will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Faith Baptist Church with the Revs. Bill Slaymaker and Red Watson officiating. Burial will follow at Snyder Cemetery under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Merritt was born on a farm outside Snyder on Aug. 1, 1935 to Lloyd Harvey and Pauline (Walton) Merritt. He served his country for 20 years retiring as a CW4 in the U.S. Army. He then served the state of Texas working alongside law enforcement as a probation and parole officer, director of a restitution center and as a parole hearing analyst. He has faithfully served the Lord, very rarely missing church on Sunday mornings, even when he traveled. He also was a Mason and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include three sons, Raymond Douglas Merritt of Round Rock, Richard Wayne Merritt of Austin and Robert Harvey Merritt of Copperas Cove; one grandson, Marcos Nathaniel Merritt of Round Rock; two sisters, Jeannette Crouse of Merkel and Mary Naomi Mastin of Bridgeport; one brother, Weldon Lloyd Merritt of Spokane, Wash.; and his fiance, Judy Gies of Copperas Cove.

Bonita Taylor


Bonita Joyce Taylor passed peacefully on Feb. 12, 2018 in her home in Plainview.  

Memorial service for Mrs. Taylor will be held at 1 p.m. March 24 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel in Plainview. 

Bonita was born on Aug. 23, 1935 in Snyder. She had lived in Plainview permanently since 1988 and was active in various charity organizations, including Meals on Wheels and local canine rescue shelters.

Survivors include her husband, Jess W. Taylor; two sisters; one brother; her children and their spouses, Jessie Richard and Barbara Taylor, Stephen Leslie and Reta Taylor, Luther Scott Taylor and Lynne Kaiser; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels or a canine rescue organization.
