Edward Thomas Jones, 58, died Thursday, June 14, 2018 in Lubbock following a sudden illness.
No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home in Lubbock.
Edward was born on Oct. 17, 1959 in Plainview to Edward Nolen Jones and Lelia Louise Wylie. The youngest of a large, loving family, Edward grew into an always smiling and optimistic child. He carried this optimistic spirit throughout his entire life.
After graduating from Lockney High School, Edward went on to earn a master’s degree in philosophy from Texas Tech University. Edward was always a teacher at heart. He was often approached by students at the end of a semester to tell him that his ethics and values course was the best course they had ever taken or he was the best teacher they had ever had.
In 1985, Edward married Patsy Ann Burt in Lubbock. Together they moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he taught philosophy courses at Utah Valley State College. Two daughters were born there.
In 1996, Edward and his family moved to Odessa, where he started a second career in the oil and gas industry. In late 2009, Edward was hired on at the Snyder gas plant as an operator and for the past six years worked as the operations supervisor. He found a wonderful work family at the plant and thoroughly enjoyed the teaching aspects of the job. He was so proud of “his guys.” Edward often commented on how the teams elevated each other. Edward especially enjoyed mentoring the “youngsters” and loved seeing them grow personally and professionally.
Edward shared his love of reading, music, comic books and good movies with all. His office was the favorite gathering place for discussions of all kinds and lots of laughter.
Cycling was one of Edward’s passions. Many have seen the cyclist wearing the bright yellow helmet with the flashing lights in and around Snyder.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lelia Mae Turner.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy, of Snyder; two daughters, Kathryn “Katy” and her partner, Danny Renfro, of Denver, Colo. and Morgan, of Denton; three sisters and one brother, Letha Hooper of Odessa, Edna Lindsey of Ransom Canyon, Gayle Cosgrove and her husband, Steve, of Waxahachie and Noland Jones of West Odessa; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Edward loved his family and pets above all. Memorials may be made to Second Chance Dog Rescue or Gateway Family Services.
