Ruth Shaw, 90, of Snyder, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018 in Snyder.
Graveside service for Mrs. Shaw will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Hillside Memorial Garden. The service will be under the direction of Miller Family Funeral Home.
Born on Dec. 25, 1927 in Tulia to Roger and Thelma (Chiles) Hickey, she married Wally “Bud” Shaw. He preceded her in death. Ruth was affectionately know as “Granny” to those who loved her the most. She was a talented seamstress, artist, doll maker, songwriter and political activist. She spent most of her life in Snyder and loved her little town with all of her heart. She was so very proud of her son, Hal Raymond Snider Sr., who preceded her in death in 2007. Hal and his wife gave her four grandchildren that were her entire world. She used to make all of Stacy and Sharla’s clothes, complete with matching hats. She took care of the grandkids when her grandson Hal Jr. was battling childhood cancer so that his parents could focus all their attention on him. Then, years later, she was surprised with a new granddaughter, Shalayna, who she called “Bubblicious.” Family was everything to her and she will be missed terribly.
Ruth was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Hal Snider Sr., one sister, Jeannine Lowry, and one brother, Sonny Hickey.
Survivors include four grandchildren, Stacy Eckman of Houston, Sharla Lee and Shalayna Valencia, both of Midland, and Hal R. Snider of Carlsbad, N.M.; the grandchildren’s mother whom she loved as her own daughter, Diane Biggers; eight great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
