Phyllis Elkins
1950-2018
Phyllis Glover Elkins, 68, of Weatherford, died Saturday, July 28, 2018 after a short battle with cancer.
Her immense spirit, joy and humor will be celebrated with a remembrance of life ceremony at 10 a.m. Sunday at The Brooks at Weatherford. A luncheon with family and friends will follow.
She was born on the south side of Chicago, Ill. on June 11, 1950 to Lucille Negri Glover and M.D. “Doc” Glover and was raised in Burkburnett. She graduated from Burkburnett High School and went on to attend Midwestern State University and East Texas State University, studying home economics. She married Michael Burman Elkins of Snyder in 1977. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this past December. Phyllis and Michael owned their own stuck pipe recovery business, Elkco Wireline Services, for nearly 30 years, operating out of Snyder. Phyllis ran the office, the phones and hotshots while Michael ran the trucks and crews.
Phyllis had a tremendous sense of humor and an explosive laugh. She was a gifted storyteller and keeper of memories and family history.
Although she didn’t feel she was creative, she nevertheless turned out intricately decorated cakes, painstakingly sewn purses, clothes and costumes, homemade Christmas candy and front-door wreaths and many other creations. She was a firm believer that if we didn’t have it, we could make it. She could spin something out of nothing like no one else.
Survivors include her devoted husband, Michael; one daughter, Haley Elkins; one son-in-law, Luke Brockmeier; and two sisters, Sun Penny Enge and Pam G. Hartman.
Memorials may be made to the  St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Refugee Connect.
