HB453 would put an end to the current presumption that, after parents separate or divorce, a child should live primarily with one parent, and visit the other parent a few times a month making the other parent a visitor in the child's life. Instead, the presumption would be that the child should spend an equal amount of time with both parents.

Texas Legislators File ‘Granny Tax’ Bill To Fill State Budget Hole

Austin,Texas (PR MediaRelease) March 16, 2017 - Texas legislators Senator Chuy Hinojosa and Representative J.D. Sheffield have filed legislation to tax nursing home residents paying for their own care. Known as the Granny Tax, Senate Bill 1130 and House Bill 2766 would generate state revenue by taxing elderly residents of nursing homes. Nursing home residents would each carry a tax bill of over $4,000 per year.
