May Day, the main fundraiser for the Scurry County Senior Citizens Center, gets underway at 2 p.m. Saturday in the coliseum.
There is no entry fee. The coliseum is handicap accessible and a wheel chair will be available at both entrances for anyone who has difficulty walking down the ramps into the arena.
Opening activities include the sweet tooth booth, the craft booth and the silent auction, featuring items donated by local merchants and businesses.
The silent auction will close at 6 p.m.
Barbecue will be served from 4:30-6 p.m. Tickets and take-out meals will be available. Cost is $6 per plate.
The ExxonMobil cooking crew will again prepare the barbecue.
Desserts may be purchased at the sweet tooth booth. The quilt auction begins at 6:30 p.m. and will include 29 large quilts, five baby quilts, large afghans, baby afghans, dolls, painted china, and other items. Grady Morris will serve as auctioneer.
Entertainment will include the Sunshine Choir presenting a Mother’s Day program at 2:15 p.m. The Deep Creek Cloggers will perform at 3, and the Aubrey Wilson Country Band will provide music from 4-6 p.m.
All funds raised will go toward the operation of the Senior Center.
