On Golden Pond, by Ernest Thompson, will be performed by the Ritz Theatre troupe starting this evening.

Curtain rises at 8 p.m. Additional performances are set for the same time Friday and Saturday and also May 14-15. Matinees are set for 2:30 p.m. on the next two Sundays.

Tickets are $7 each and reservations may be made by calling 573-8880. Reservations for groups of 10 or more are $5 for each person for the Sunday matinees. Senior citizens and and student tickets are $6.

Performers include Mike Thornton, Emily Hataway, Grant Knipe, Beth Bowen, Michelle McMillan, Caleb Durham and Kent Wright.

Setting for the play, directed by Ellie Dryden, is the Thayer summer cottage on Golden Pond in Maine.

“When I first saw the movie, On Golden Pond, back in the 1980s, I fell in love with it -- mostly because I was a fan of Katharine Hepburn and Henry Fonda. Then just three or four years ago, I saw the stage play in Kerrville and found it both funny and moving. It was then I decided we needed to do it at the Ritz,” Dryden said.
