Gertrude League
1920-2004
Gertrude League, longtime Snyder resident, died Tuesday,
May 4, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Services for Mrs. League, 84, are pending at
Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born Jan. 14, 1920 in Vivion, La., she married Joseph
League on April 3, 1936 in Tyler. He died March 10, 2001. A resident of Snyder since 1974,
Mrs. League was an active member in the Snyder Garden Club, serving two terms as president
during 1979-81 and was vice-president at the time of her death.
She was a member of the National Council of State Garden
Clubs and Texas Garden Clubs Inc. She wrote the schedule for the Scurry County Fair garden
shows and has won numerous district and state awards. She earned the Master Flower Show
Judge and served on the National Flower Show Judges Council for District VIII.
Mrs. League has helped plant trees throughout Snyder and
has worked in other community beautification efforts. She taught horticulture at
Humble-Smith School and hosted Christmas parties for the students.
She also was a longtime member of the Womens Golf
Association at the Snyder Country Club. A longtime member of Colonial Hill Baptist Church,
she had served on the churchs landscape committee and she was a member of the Order
of the Eastern Star, serving two terms as Peacemaker.
Survivors include a son, Joe C. League of San Angelo; two
sisters, Geraldine Alford of Houston and Mary Lois Burge of Longview; and two grandsons,
Joe Foster League of San Angelo and James Charles League of Tocca, Ga.
Mrs. Ainsworth
1910-2004
Maybelle Ainsworth, longtime Scurry County resident, died
Sunday, May 2, in Snyder Oaks Care Center after a lengthy illness.
Funeral service for Mrs. Ainsworth, 93, is set for 2 p.m.
Friday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. Bruce Smith will officiate. Burial
will follow in the Fluvanna Cemetery.
Born Nov. 27, 1910 in Wood County, she was married to
Lloyd Ainsworth who died May 11, 2003.
A homemaker, Mrs. Ainsworth was a longtime Fluvanna area
resident.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ellen
Keith, on Jan. 13, 1999; two brothers, Bill and J.C. Tucker; and a sister, Janelle Nanny.
Survivors include two grandchildren, Kerrie Keith and
Chad Keith, both of Austin; and a sister, Margarette Jacobs of Odessa.
Mildred Clark
1924-2004
Mildred Yvonne Clark, a former Snyder resident, died
Sunday, May 2, in Park Plaza Nursing Home in San Angelo after a lengthy illness.
Funeral service for Mrs. Clark, 79, is set for 11 a.m.
Thursday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Karen Schmeltekopf,
associate minister of the First Christian Church in San Angelo, officiating. Burial will
follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens and arrangements are under the direction of
Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born Dec. 11, 1924 in Fort Worth, she married Oran
Kendale Clark on Nov. 4, 1944 in Snyder. He died May 31, 1991.
Mrs. Clark had been a resident of Snyder since 1929,
moving to San Angelo in 2001. A member of Snyders First Christian Church, Mrs. Clark
was a homemaker and had worked as a ward clerk at Cogdell Hospital for about 10 years.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Susan
and Joe Nichols of San Leandro, Calif.; Sarah and Wayne Schulz of San Angelo, Sandra and
Cecil Davis of Midland and a sister-in-law, Mickey Clark of Austin; five grandchildren,
Paul Nicholas Schulz of San Angelo, Stacy Michelle Schulz of Two Rivers, Wis., Wes Davis
of Phenix City, Ala., Casey Davis of Greenwell Springs, La., and Kenny Davis of Lubbock;
two great-grandchildren, Brianna Valadez and Jeanette Davis.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at
Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Felix Garcia
1916-2004
Felix Rodriguez Garcia of Snyder died Sunday, May 2, in
Snyder Health Care Center.
Service for Mr. Garcia, 87, is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday
at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Lubbock with the Rev. Cornelio Ramirez
officiating. Burial will follow in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park in Woodrow, Texas.
Arrangements are under the direction of White Funeral
Home in Lubbock.
Born Dec. 2, 1916 in Laredo to Adelaido and Leandra
Rodriguez Garcia, he married Aurora Guajardo in 1967 in Susampaco, Texas. Garcia was a
retired laborer and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. He also was a U.S. Army
veteran of World War II.
Survivors include two sons but only one is known, Joe
Gonzales.
Scyble DeLavan
1916-2004
LUBBOCK -- Scyble DeLavan, a native of Scurry County,
died Sunday, May 2.
Funeral service for Mrs. DeLavan, 88, is set for 10 a.m.
Wednesday in the Rix Funeral Home Chapel.
Born Feb. 26, 1916 in Snyder, she was a 1933 graduate of
Snyder High School and also graduated from the Lubbock General School of Nursing.
She married Edwin B. DeLavan on Oct. 4, 1938 in Clovis,
N.M. He died July 5, 1965.
Mrs. DeLavan was employed by St. Marys Hospital for
many years and also worked for the city health department for 17 years, retiring in 1986.
She also was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas B.
and Blanche Burrough.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas DeLavan of Lubbock and
William DeLavan of Midland; two daughters, Bryan Kay White of Ropesville and De Ann
DeLavan of Lubbock; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Joy Keller
1927-2004
Joy Fay Keller, a life-long resident of Scurry County,
died Sunday, May 2, at her home in Snyder after a sudden illness.
Service for Mrs. Keller, 76, was held this morning in
Northside Baptist Church with the Rev. Dave Phillips, pastor, officiating. Burial was to
follow in Snyder Cemetery and arrangements were under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale
Funeral Home.
Born Oct. 6, 1927 in Hermleigh, she was a 1945 Hermleigh
High School graduate. She was an all-state guard on the HHS basketball team that played in
the state championship game.
She married Raymond Keller on July 31, 1948 in Snyder.
She had worked for Clark Propane for more than 20 years and also had worked for J.C.
Penney and for Stinson Drug. Mrs. Keller also was a longtime secretary for Northside
Baptist Church.
A son, Douglas Wade Keller, preceded her in death on
April 2, 1952.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond Keller of Snyder;
two sons, Barry Dean Keller and Randall Max Keller, both of Snyder; three sisters, Jean
Blackwell, Geraldine Greene and Connie Green, all of Snyder; two grandsons, Mark Alen
Keller and Joshua Ryan Keller, both of Snyder; and a step granddaughter, Nicole Dabney.
The family suggests memorials to the Northside Baptist
Church, 1909 26th Street in Snyder.
