ABILENE -- The Ira boys 4x200m relay team had a strong race and a little luck in qualifying for the state track and field meet.
The Bulldogs -- Jess Wall, Wes Kellner, Bryson Higgins and Bryan Proctor -- placed third in the region with a time of 1:34.96, but will represent Class A Region II in the state meet after the second-place relay team from Petrolia was disqualified.
“We’re very excited,” head coach Toby Goodwin said. “We knew we had a good chance going in. I feel like we still haven’t run our best time.”
Goodwin said the four have only raced together twice, and got help making it to regionals from relay alternate Devin Gutierrez.
The same four also competed in the 400m relay, placing seventh.
