ODESSA -- Ricky McNatt earned a spot in the state track and field meet with a second-place throw in the discus, and the 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams qualified for Saturday’s finals at Ratliff Stadium.

McNatt had a throw of 157-7, and will join October Wells in Austin May 14-15. Wells placed second and qualified for state in the long jump early Friday.

The Snyder boys had two relay teams and two individuals in the finals Saturday, and sat in third in the team totals after the running prelims and Friday’s field events.

The 4x200m relay team -- Justin Boyd, Zach Cain, Jesus Juarez and Malcome Wells -- was seeded first and was to run in the finals at 1:25 p.m. Saturday.

The same four are seeded fourth in the 4x100 relay.

Boyd and Wells also qualified for the finals in individual events, with Boyd earning a top seed in the 400 sprint and Wells garnering a fourth spot in the 200.

Also Saturday, Josh Muniz was slated to run in the mile. He was sixth in the two-mile on Friday, finishing in 10:48.35.

Brett Shepherd of Canyon won that event with a time of 9:51.37.

“We looked good,” head coach Roger White said. “We need to improve our handoffs and go out (Saturday) and take care of business.”

October Wells also was competing in the triple jump Saturday morning, and qualified for the finals in the 100 and 200.

Candace Chandler qualified for the 800m run, which was slated for 1:35 p.m. Saturday.
