The Snyder community is some 200 tons to the good on the side of getting rid of trash and junk, thanks to the recent cleanup drive by the city.
“We’ve picked up right at 200 tons, with a couple of days left to pick things up,” said Eli Torres, landfill supervisor.
One particular area targeted by the city was the mobile home that burned a few months ago in the 200 block of 30th Street.
City crews were at that location last week, hauling off the remains of the mobile home, including cutting up the steel for salvage.
Also to be cut down is the metal covering of the mobile home that saw steel beams bent due to the amount of heat generated during the fire.
It appears now that the property will join the ranks of other property in the community where the city has had to come in and clean up an area deemed unsafe, and a health and safety hazard.
The owner of the property, Russell Jones, will be sent a bill for the cleanup, less what the city received from the salvageable materials.
The city will follow normal notification procedures with Jones and if the bill is not paid, a lien will be filed against the property.
This is what happened to the property on the square whose structures were destroyed by fire over a year ago.
Vic Chambers of the city’s planning and zoning department said liens have been filed against the owners of both buildings that were destroyed.
“They still own the buildings, we just have a lien against the property,” said Chambers.
In the event the property ever sells, the city will then recoup its costs for cleaning up the property.
“They’ll have to settle the lien before the title can be transferred,” said Chambers.
