Western Texas College has named 1993 Snyder graduate Jason McAden the new girls volleyball coach.
McAden spent the past two seasons as the head coach of 5A Texas A&M Consolidated.
After graduating from Snyder, McAden attended Odessa College for two years before transferring to Hardin-Simmons University.
While at Hardin-Simmons, he was the captain of the men’s volleyball team and was a player- coach for two years. He also worked as an assistant coach for the girls volleyball team and was later named interim head coach.
McAden, whose father Larry is the pastor at Calvary Baptist, said he is ready to return to his roots.
“My family’s here and I wanted to get back home,” he said.
McAden and his wife Kellie have been married for four years and are the parents of a son, two-year-old Jaxon, and a three-week-old daughter, Jaron.
McAden will officially begin his duties Thursday, and already faces some challenges.
“Recruiting is going to be a challenge,” he said. “We got a late start. I don’t want to say all the good players are signed, because there are a lot of good players left. It’s just a matter of finding them.”
McAden also said scheduling the inaugural season will be a major job.
“I’m waiting on about 20 coaches to call me back,” he said.
McAden said he hopes to carry 10 players on this year’s roster, and will hold an open try-out at 10 a.m. April 17 at the WTC gym.
