Mr. Armstrong

1919-2004

Emerson Lee Armstrong of Snyder died Sunday, March 21, in Snyder Healthcare Center.

A memorial service for Mr. Armstrong, 84, is set for 2 p.m. Thursday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was held in the Stewartsville Cemetery in Stewartsville, Mo.

Born Nov. 23, 1919 in Stewartsville, he entered the Air Force in 1942 and retired in 1963 as a Lt. Colonel. He flew B-25s. Mr. Armstrong taught in El Paso, retiring in 1988. Mr. Armstrong served as presiding elder of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, now known as Community of Christ, in El Paso and served as district president of the New Mexico district.

He married Marie Belcher on July 3, 1942 in Las Vegas, Nev. In 1988 they moved from El Paso to Lamoni, Iowa and volunteered their services to the church as guides to a historical home site. He was called to the office of patriarch evangelist.

After moving to Snyder in 1996, Mr. Armstrong had been active in the Senior Citizen Center and the Food Cupboard, singing for many activities.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mona Capparel.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Armstrong of Snyder; one daughter and son-in-law, Joan and George Weber of Denver, Colo.; one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Linda Armstrong of Lamoni, Iowa; four grandchildren, Joshua, Margaret, Richard and Jenni Armstrong; and one great-grandson, Ethen Armstrong.

The family suggests memorials to the Senior Citizen Center or the Food Cupboard.

 


Leota Newton

1944-2004

SWEETWATER -- Leota Jean Newton, a former resident of Snyder, died Sunday, March 28, in Rolling Plains Hospital.

Funeral service for Mrs. Newton, 59, was set for 2 p.m. today in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was to follow in the Lone Wolf Cemetery.

Born Aug. 25, 1944 in Reeves County, she attended Snyder schools and Western Texas College. She had also lived in Bangs before moving to Sweetwater 12 years ago.

Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca Huddlen of Roscoe; her mother, Pearl Claxton of Roscoe; three grandsons, Kashawn Newton, Coby Newton and Richard Huddlen Jr.

Pallbearers will be Leonard Nickerson, Jerry Wemken and Evaristo Granado.

 


Margy Leyerly

1925-2004

MIDLAND -- Margy Lou Leyerly, a former resident of Snyder, died Sunday, March 28, in Midland Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service for Mrs. Leyerly, 78, is set for 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Born Nov. 15, 1925 in Neosho, Mo., she graduated from high school in Caldwell, Kan., and married Dean Leyerly in 1942.

She lived in Austin, Midland, Snyder, San Angelo Farmington, N.M., and Evansville, Ind., before retiring in Midland.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Ethel Dean Crumbliss.

Survivors include her husband, Dean Leyerly of Midland; two daughters, Dana Copeland of Midland and Jo Adams of Moody; a brother, Richard Crumbliss; a sister, Bess Ginn; and two grandchildren.
