Snyder High School earned 242 points Saturday during the District 3-3A UIL Literary Academic Events held at the school.
Seminole followed with 228 points. The one-act play contest Saturday in Sweetwater will decide the district rankings.
All first place teams and students who earned a first through third place will advance to the regional contest April 23-24 at Odessa College.
Snyder students’ winning included five first place teams and two second place teams. SHS students also earned five first place awards, as well as other awards.
The journalism team ranked first overall.
The winners are as follows:
In accounting, Matthew Kerr, Josh Kemp, Josh Payne and Seth Cooper were the first place team. Individually, Kemp ranked first; Cooper, second; Kerr, third; and Payne, fourth.
Kim Cooper finished fifth in calculator applications.
Students bringing home computer applications awards are Katie Haggard, first; Whitney Waldon, second; and Megan Fletcher, third.
The computer science team finished in first place. Students with individual awards include Kim Cooper, first; Matthew Morris, second; Austin Hatfield, third; and Bryan Clifton, fifth.
In current events, Matthew Kerr, Seth Cooper and Ashley Pavlovsky earned first place. Kerr also placed second individually.
The literary criticism team finished in second place. Members are Amanda Whitson, Adrienne Garcia, Aeryal Peoples and Emily Jones. Whitson placed third and Garcia fifth in individual competition.
The mathematics team of Josh Kemp, Josh Payne and Erin Burleson finished in second place. Kemp placed first in individual competition and Payne earned sixth place.
In number sense, Josh Kemp finished in first place.
Two SHS students placed in ready writing. Erin Burleson garnered first place and Cami Trout finished sixth.
Nathaniel Clarady won fifth place in science.
The social studies team finished in first place.
In individual contests, Emily Jones ranked second; Erin Hackfeld, third; Ashley Pavlovsky, fifth and Aeryal Peoples, sixth.
In informative speaking, Fran Leighton placed fourth; and Laura Arellano placed sixth.
Amanda Blythe garnered second place in Lincoln Douglas Debate.
SHS’ spelling and vocabulary team consisting of Marisa Munoz, Mechelle Renfro, Hollie Berryhill and John Whitworth placed first. Individually, Munoz earned third place.
Amanda Blythe won fourth place and Paula Fritz garnered sixth place in persuasive speaking.
In prose interpretation, Blake Robertson took second place honors and Laura Arellano came in fifth.
In news writing, Gretchen Hollis won second place and Jeff Scott came in third.
SHS students also earned feature writing awards, including Jeff Scott, second; Anna Henson, third; and Molly Haire, fourth.
In editorial writing, Gretchen Hollis placed third.
