LEVELLAND -- The Snyder Tigers could have earned more than the 63 points they left Levelland with Friday.

They also could have suffered a serious injury that could have dented their district plans.

Approaching 9:30 p.m. and with a handful of events yet to be decided, Snyder head coach Roger White pulled his team from the South Plains College track and onto the bus.

“At 9:30 I’d had enough,” White said. “They had no lights on the back side of the track, and I looked down there and you could barely see the hurdles. We’ve got district in about three weeks, and I wasn’t going jeopardize our kids.”

The meet also was held up throughout the day by the use of an electronic scoring system, which delayed the start of each event by several minutes.

Monahans, which won the meet with 145 points, was the only team ahead of the Tigers when White ended the meet for Snyder.

Despite not running in events like the 300m hurdles and the 3,200, the Tigers still managed to take fifth in the meet.

Snyder had three of the nine boys left in the 300 hurdles.

The 400m relay team of Malcome Wells, Justin Boyd, Zach Cain and Jesus Juarez won the gold with a new personal record of 43.40.

Garrett Pinson won the silver in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.23, and Josh Muniz set a new personal record, finishing the 3200 run in 10:43 for the silver.

Justin Boyd leapt 6-4 in the high jump to claim the silver, while teammate D’Angelo Davis was sixth.

Davis set a new personal mark of 39-7 in the triple jump, while Boyd set a personal mark of 20-9 in the long jump.

Both finished in fourth with those times.

Demetrius Brandon earned the bronze in the shot put with a heave of 46-6.5.

Juarez and Jeff Bruton were fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 100 dash.

Johnny Vasquez had a big day for the junior varsity, earning the silver in the shot put and discus events, while helping the 400 relay team, including Matt Fernandez, Kyle Sanchez and Dwight Wells, win the bronze.

Barrett Bowlin was third in the triple jump and Cody Reed was sixth in the two-mile run.

The girls finished just 14 points in a solid field of 18 teams to take ninth place.

October Wells was the lone medalist for the girls, taking home the silver with a triple jump of 35-6.

The Snyder thinclads will travel to Brownwood this week for a two-day meet beginning Friday.
