Never let it be said the Tigers can’t do it the hard way.

Snyder (11-3, 1-0) broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning with two outs to edge Lamesa (2-12, 0-1), 4-2 Friday.

“We’ll take the win,” head coach Charles Bollinger said. “The first district game, maybe we were too juiced, too excited. We made it ha rder on ourselves than they made it on us. Nothing they did was unexpected.”

What was unexpected was a tie score late in the game with Ty Collier delivering a clutch start in the district opener.

Collier went the distance, giving up five hits and striking out 11. Both runs were unearned.

“It feels good to get the win after the loss,” Collier said. “We got a win and maybe we can go out and get another and get into a rhythm.”

After staking a 1-0 lead in the second inning courtesy of an RBI single from Marcus Villarreal, the Tigers missed a pair of fly balls in the outfield, allowing two runs to score in the top of the third, to give the Tors a short-lived 2-1 lead.

After back-to-back singles in the bottom of the third by Jordan Dea and Isaac Ramon, Collier tied it with a base hit.

Collier and Lamesa starter Bryan Brown battled for two shut out innings until the Tiger bat broke out in with two out in the bottom of the sixth.

“Our offense isn’t there,” Bollinger said. “The scoreboard says nine hits. Marcus Villarreal did a good job, but our guys know we didn’t hit well as a team.”

With two gone in the sixth, pinch-hitter Nathan Hernandez drew a walk, followed by a Villarreal single, to put runners on first and third.

Bradley Price knocked in Hernandez for the game-winner, and, after a double steal, Villarreal scored the final run on a passed ball.

Snyder will go for its second district win Tuesday when they host the Denver City Mustangs.

The JV club topped Jim Ned, 16-5, Thursday, before falling to Frenship, 19-2, Friday in the Sweetwater Tournament.

Against Jim Ned, Barrett Bowlin pitched five innings and smacked a two-run homer.

The Tigers resume district play at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Denver City at Moffett Field.
