For the past year, a dedicated group of senior citizens performed 42,779 hours of volunteer service. The tables were turned Friday night as they were honored at the 25th annual Senior Citizens Center Volunteer Recognition Banquet.

Volunteers receive a pin for their first 500 hours of service and each time they enter the next category they receive another pin.

The top 15 for this past year were also named and each received a colorful bouquet of flowers in keeping with the Viva Las Vegas theme.

Cary Patrick led with 2,494 hours. In descending order others are Thadine Harless, 2,011; Dorothy Duncan, 1,562; Margaret Clevenger, 1,500; Don Duncan, 1,187; Opal Cooper, 1,000; Billie Holladay, 996; Nate Pyburn, 969; Juanita Ellington, 875; Marie Armstrong, 849; Ruby Gregory, 838; Texa Ball, 776; Peggy Fowler, 700; Allie Beth Beauchamp, 644; and Alice Underwood, 641.

Volunteers who received new pins include Thadine Harless, Texa Ball, Cary Patrick, Dorothy Duncan, Margaret Clevenger, Nate Pyburn, Juanita Ellington, Marie Amstrong, Peggy Fowler, Ruby Gregory, Jo Flynn, Jackie Adams, Dorothy Lankford, Don Duncan, Viola Stone, Furman Branson, Geneva Burk, Opal Cooper, Billie Holladay, Virginia Johnston, Ben Odorizzi and John Pickering.

Others include Velma Pickering, Allie Beth Beauchamp, Lonice Hall, Natalie Sallee, Ronda Anderson, Roy Bennett, Izora Milliken, Simms Norred, Anna Sears, Connie Stom, Alice Underwood, Mary Ward, Etta Wilson, Polly Echols, Icy Foree, Homer Godair, Nell Harper, Norma Laywell, Charles Lear, Norma Lofton, Madie Maben, Addie Markham, Johnnie Pyburn, Bernadine Sealy, Wendel Thomas, Barbara Tune, Genetha Payne and Beth Zajicek.

Snyder High students Logan Martin and Temi Thompson provided the entertainment -- singing songs from the musical Anything Goes.

Carla Thompson, director, gave the welcome. Pamela Fenton presented the pins while Valerie Drum recognized the top 15 volunteers. Norma Laywell, former director of the center, gave the invocation. She is also on the advisory council.

Drawings for door prizes concluded the banquet.
