Western Texas College’s Cody Carter was in first place in team roping after the opening round of the Odessa College Rodeo Thursday.

Carter and his partner earned the top spot with a time of 8.4 seconds.

Bruno Paoiella stood in second in steer wrestling with a 6.7, and Clay Bunney was third in bareback riding after earning a 70 on his initial ride.

Jennifer Weeding was second in goat-tying with an 8.7, and Lane Nixon was in seventh in bull riding with a 70.

“We started off slow, but most of our guys and girls will be going tonight,” head coach Greg Rhodes said.

The rodeo is slated to run through Saturday, with the championship round Saturday night.
