Obvious changes to the landscape behind the Scurry County Boy’s and Girl’s Club has left many residents wondering what the future holds for the facility.
“We’re really looking up around the club,” said Chad Welsh, director.
Earlier this year, the club was a victim of a burglary that left Welsh and the area children who utilize the facility with a deep sense of loss.
“We’ve been through some pretty rough times, but with a lot of help, things are really on track and improving for the club,” he said.
The first noticeable facelift is the new football field that will be situated directly behind the club building. It will have a double field, which will give more room for the football games that are held there.
“It’s going to be very, very nice,” said Welsh. “I must say that it couldn’t have happened without the help of Chloanne Lindsey and Precinct 4. They have done so much to make all of this happen. I can’t thank them enough.”
In addition to Lindsey, Welsh cited the efforts of Gary Bowen, Darryl Nachlinger, Corey Maxfield, Mike Uptergrove, Jeff Smith and Darrel Bills.
“They have all done so much. It’s going to be a really nice field once it’s all finished,” said Welsh.
The Boys and Girls Club also was the recipient of a $10,000 donation raised by the Sammy Baugh 90th birthday celebration.
“That was a great gift for us,” said Welsh. “There are going to be many improvements added as a result. I know I’ve said it before, but I’m very excited. Things are really looking up for the club.”
