Snyder chamber of commerce directors heard requests for hotel-motel funds and planned several upcoming events at its monthly meeting Monday.
Several items tabled from last month’s meeting and three new ones were reviewed with a total of $4,000 granted.
Tabled from the last meeting to gain more information on their events included the Ranch Rodeo to be held this weekend. It was granted $500. Also the Snyder High School speech tournament request was denied due to applying late and it also did not meet the criteria for receiving the tax funds.
The request for $1,500 from the Buffalo Trail Boy Scouts Fishing Tournament set for April 17 was also denied due to not meeting the guidelines set up by the state for hotel-motel funds.
Request granted were $1,000 to Gateway Family Services for its third annual Gateway Classic Golf Tournament on April 17, $2,500 for the Scurry County Pilots Association for the annual Fly-In June 19. Lyndia Allen made the presentation for Gateway Family Services and John Rogotzke made the request for the Fly-In.
Ribbon cuttings are planned for Cash and Carry, Curves and Sun Trax. Executive director Vicki Shroyer said membership is rising and the chamber has 230 members.
Shroyer also gave reports on major projects including the chamber membership booklet, the clean Snyder clean up undertaking and she asked for volunteers for the Carson & Barnes Circus on April 9 at the coliseum and the WTC Softball ceremony April 3.
Also briefly discussed were the Business after Hours to be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the chamber and the WTC Rodeo set for April 1-3.
Tickets are on sale now for the chamber of commerce banquet set for April 21 in the Scurry County Coliseum. Bob Knight, Texas Tech men’s basketball coach will be the featured speaker. Tickets are $25 per person and VIP tables will seat eight.
The chamber will have a team to run in the Relay for Life cancer fundraiser on April 23-24 at Tiger Stadium. Volunteers may call the chamber at 573-3558.
Snyder Wheels will have its car show on April 30-May 1 with the cars displayed at the downtown square.
