After winning the first two games against Trinidad Friday, the Westerners were stunned by Trinidad Saturday, 15-3.
“It’s the first time we’ve played five in a row, and it’s tough to play five games in three days,” Western Texas College head coach Billy Hefflinger said. “It was good for us, because that’s the schedule we will have in the conference tournament.”
Hefflinger said he wanted the team to go at least 3-5 last week, and they responded by claiming the first three-game winning streak in program history.
“It was a good week,” he said. “It was the first time we’ve won a series, and in two days, we won as many games as we had all year. If we can stay on a high note, I think we can play well and be successful.”
Tyler Trout, Shay Franks, Derek David and Casey Mund all struggled against the Trinidad lineup.
David was 2-for-4 with a double, Tanyon Reeves collected two hits and a stolen base while Josh Heiney also recorded a pair of base knocks.
The Westerners (7-23, 2-10) will host Ranger Junior College at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
