The Tigers finished off the Burkburnett varsity baseball tournament on a high note Saturday, blowing out 4A Pampa, 8-0, to go 3-1 in the tourney.
Despite winning on a tiebreaker against Midwest City, Okla., Friday, the Tigers were left out of the championship game in favor of Midwest City, which did not lose a game outright.
Lubbock Cooper beat Midwest City to win the championship.
“We’re not upset,” head coach Charles Bollinger said. “We played the toughest competition out there and had a real good weekend.”
Bollinger said the team was sound defensively throughout the tourney.
“We turned about five double plays,” he said. “Our defense is looking really good.”
Blake Grimmett got the start against Pampa, going five innings and allowing no runs on five hits while striking out five.
The game was halted after five because of an eight-run mercy rule in place for the tournament.
The Tigers also had a solid game at the plate. Seven players combined to crack nine base hits, including multiple hit games from Grimmett, Bradley Price and Nathan Hernandez.
Grimmett had a double and a single and two RBIs, and Price collected a pair of RBIs off two singles.
Hernandez, filling in for Grimmett at second, was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles, while Hadley Hirt, Alex Neal, Eric Martinez and Marcus Villarreal each slapped a single.
Snyder (10-2) travels to Lubbock Tuesday to take on the Cooper Pirates at 6:30 p.m. in the final tune-up before district starts Friday.
Snyder opens the district season at home, hosting Lamesa at 7:30 p.m. at Moffett Field.
