Kelsi Johnson pitched a complete game and Laura Clanton turned a single into a home run as the Lady Tigers downed Sweetwater Tuesday, 4-1.
Sweetwater (0-3) matched Snyder (2-0) at the plate, with both teams recording five hits, but the Lady Tigers did not commit an error in the contest.
Clanton got Snyder on the board in the first inning. After slapping a single, Sweetwater threw the ball away, allowing Clanton to race around the bases and score on the play.
The teams played to a stalemate until the sixth, when the Lady Tigers pushed across three runs.
“That was the only time we had a spark (at the plate),” head coach Darren Pool said. “We weren’t waiting on the ball, but in the fifth, we made some adjustments and started to hit the ball a bit. But we didn’t hit like we wanted to.”
Ashley Martinez broke the spell in the fifth with a double, but Snyder didn’t capitalize until the sixth, when Shalea Thompson and Clanton each plated runs.
The JV (3-1-1) pounded Sweetwater, 13-0, in a four-inning contest. Amber Luecke went all four innings for the win, and Sarah Covington had three base knocks and five RBIs in the contest.
Jessica Calvert had three RBIs and Kendra Birks collected a trio of hits on the evening.
The teams will return to district action Friday at Seminole, with the varsity starting at 5 p.m. and the JV taking the field at 7 p.m.
The varsity will then turn around and play Lubbock Monterey in a non-conference game at 1 p.m. Saturday.
