Bob Knight, men’s basketball coach at Texas Tech, will be the featured speaker at this year’s Snyder Chamber of Commerce banquet.
Vicki Shroyer, chamber executive director, said confirmation of Knight’s acceptance was received Tuesday.
The banquet will be held April 21 in the Scurry County Coliseum. Time and ticket prices have yet to be determined, Shroyer said.
“We normally wouldn’t have a chamber banquet on a Wednesday night, but this was the only date available for Coach Knight,” Shroyer said.
Knight has been a coach on the college level since 1962, starting at the U.S. Military Academy as an assistant from 1963-65. He was the head coach at West Point from 1965-71 when he became head coach at Indiana University where he stayed for 29 seasons and won 11 Big Ten Conference titles and the national championship in 1976.
The Hoosiers participated in the Final Four five times and the champion game three times.
Knight took over the Red Raider basketball program in 2001 and Tech advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1999. Tech also is in the NCAA tournament this season.
