Scurry County Appraisal District directors reorganized the board and approved amended budgets for 2003 at this morning’s meeting.

Harold Lacik was named chairman, while Donald Tate was elected vice chairman and David Beaver was named secretary.

The amended budget was $605,173, with an actual expenditure of $586,592.99, leaving a balance of $18,580.01.

Income was $4,297.51, leaving a total appraisal carryover of $22,877.52 to be refunded.

Receiving refunds will be Hermleigh ISD, $544; Ira ISD, $1,599; Snyder ISD, $11,857; Scurry County, $4,860; Western Texas College, $2,765; and the City of Snyder, $1,239.

The members of the agricultural advisory board were reappointed and include Joe Hefner, Donald Tate and Sid Wall. A new member named to serve is Ray Myers.

Crooks discussed the tax ceiling recently adopted by Scurry County. Board member Fred Cross questioned the estimated loss of revenues to the county.

“There’s no way to predict at this time what the cost will be to the county,” Crooks said. “We can use trends, but there are a lot of other factors involved. For example, we don’t know the exact number of people who will turn 65.”
