The Snyder netters split four matches in Waco over the weekend, rebounding from the loss of several players with a second-consecutive top-10 finish in the state tournament.

“We had a great year for team tennis,” head coach Ted Phillips said. “I am very proud of all these kids -- they have come a long way since the first of the school year.”

Snyder opened the state tournament with a match with Groesbeck, falling in the first round, 13-6. Number ones Tanner Reed and Andra Dunham earned easy straight set victories, and girls number two Stephanie Williams needed three sets to notch a win.

Dunham and Williams combined to top Groesbeck in girls doubles.

Nikki Timora and Wesley Price also won their matches.

The loss sent Snyder to the consolation bracket, where the team bested LaGrange, 13-4.

Reed, Matt Hale, Austin Lyle, Kenny Alcala and Price helped Snyder take five of six matches in boys singles, while Dunham, Williams and Annie Martinez helped the girls split.

The boys doubles teams of Reed-Lyle and Alcala-Price pushed Snyder to a 2-1 edge in that grouping, while Dunham-Williams and Kallie Wesson-Timora took the first two matches in girls doubles.

Snyder then edged Bellville, 10-7, with Reed and Jow Ynguanzo getting pivotal victories in boys singles.

Lyle and Price also won their singles matches.

Will Banks and Megan Crisp teamed up to win the mixed doubles division.

Dunham, Timora and Crisp helped Snyder take three of five from LaGrange in girls singles.

The teams went to pro sets as the day grew late.

Snyder fell to Robinson, 10-4, in the 9th place match.

Robinson topped 11th-place Sweetwater to advance to play the Tigers.

The girls claimed two of three in girls doubles, with Dunham-Williams breezing and Mattie Phillips and Jacy Beccue teaming up for a win.

Reed and Lyle gave Snyder a win in boys doubles, and Dunham hammered Katy Butler, 8-1, in the only singles victory of the match for Snyder.

Individual tennis begins for Snyder March 26-27 at the Brownwood Tournament, before the Tigers get into district action the following week.
