The Western Texas College rodeo hands had some solid individual performances in Weatherford, but could not put it together collectively, finishing sixth in the men’s division and fourth in the women’s.

Head coach Greg Rhodes said the point differential between WTC and the five teams ahead of the men did not hurt the school in the Southwest Conference standings.

WTC placed three bull riders in the short round, with Hadley Hunting winning the short round with an 82 and the average.

Tate Stratton (77) was second in the short round and in the average.

Trent Cormier was fourth in the bull-riding event with a 69 in the short round. He also was fourth in the average.

Sabrina Lay won the barrel race in the short round, taking the top spot by riding the circuit in 16.63 seconds. She also was first in the average.

Clay Bunney took fourth in both the short round and the average in bareback riding.

“We had a decent rodeo, but we didn’t get our saddle bronc riders into the short round and that hurt us,” Rhodes said. “I’m not concerned. The saddle bronc guys have been carrying us, and they just had a down rodeo. It should be an aberration. Overall, we didn’t look bad.”

The team will be off this weekend, and will saddle up March 25 for the Odessa Rodeo.
