You don’t need a weatherman in Scurry County to tell you when it’s going to rain.
Just check the sports schedule. If there’s baseball or softball games on the agenda, chances are, it’s going to pour.
Rain forced the cancellation of the Snyder baseball tournament Saturday, after Friday’s games were cancelled because of showers.
“There is just no way we could play,” head baseball coach Charles Bollinger said.
The Tigers opened the tournament without a hitch Thursday, crushing Dumas, 11-1. But Friday’s rains sent the other teams home, and puddles and run-off caused the fields to be unplayable early Saturday.
The Tigers have been dealing with rain delays since the start of the year, and last week’s deluge caused the Lady Tigers to cancel the opening day of the softball tournament.
The Tigers get back into action Thursday night at the Burkburnett Tournament, where they will open at 7:30 with Wichita Falls Rider.
The Lady Tigers also postponed Friday’s district opener against Levelland until Monday.
The varsity will play at 5 p.m., while the JV will get started at 7 p.m.
The boys golf team got a late start Friday at San Angelo, but got the first round in after a 1 p.m. shotgun start. The team began the second round as scheduled Saturday.
The Snyder track team was scheduled to run in the West Texas Relays in Odessa Saturday, after officials called off the first day because of the rain.
