Monday is the last day to sign up as a candidate for local boards.
The deadline to file for local school boards and the Snyder city council is at 5 p. m. Monday.
Two schools, Snyder and Ira, will be on spring break, but election officials at those schools will be available Monday if anyone wants to file.
Election clerk Betty Morgan will be at the SISD administrative building from 2-5 p.m. Monday. If one needs to file early in the day Monday, Morgan said she could be reached at 573-4188.
Ira business manager Jan Duke will be at the Ira ISD administrative offices from 8 a.m. until noon, and from 1-4 p.m. Monday.
Hermleigh ISD offices will be open during regular business hours Monday for candidates to file.
Both incumbents have now filed for the Snyder ISD as Cathy Peoples filed following the board meeting Thursday night.
Filing earlier was Luann Burleson. Neither are opposed.
Peoples will be seeking her second elected term on the board as she was first elected in 2001 after being appointed to fill an unexpired term in May 2001.
Peoples is a licensed respiratory therapist and is employed by Cogdell Memorial Hospital at its clinic at the Price Daniel Unit.
People’s husband, Thomas, is employed by ExxonMobil and they have four children.
Alicia is a law student at Wake Forrest, while Zipporah is a freshman at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Aeryal is a sophomore at SHS and Jordan is in the fourth grade at Central.
At Ira, incumbents Keith Clements and Dirk Dunn have filed for another term, but as of yet, no one has filed at Hermleigh.
Hermleigh board members whose terms expire are Sherene Digby and David Higgins.
Higgins has indicated he will not seek another term, and as late as Friday, Digby had not filed. Earlier, she said she was leaning not to file.
On the Snyder city council, three current incumbents are seeking new terms.
Vernest Tippens has filed for Place 1, while Stephanie Ducheneaux has filed for re-election to Place 2. Ron Shaw is seeking another term on Place 4.
Presently, Place 3 is vacant as James Ashley resigned after moving from the community.
The only contested race to develop thus far is for Place 3 on the board at Western Texas College.
Incumbent Carolyn Barbee, owner of Barbee Medical Supply, is being challenged by Bob O’Day, a former WTC golf coach and athletic director.
Also up for re-election is Dr. Jay Kidd, who serves in Place 4.
While Monday is the last day to file to have a name on the ballot, a candidate may file for a write-in position through March 22 on any of the above elections.
