Damp fields and a chilly drizzle once again welcomed the Snyder Tigers and disrupted the annual varsity tournament.

All the games scheduled for Thursday were played, but all of today’s games have been cancelled.

Snyder head baseball coach Charles Bolinger said a revised schedule is being worked on for Saturday.

Rain also is in the forecast for Saturday.

The Tigers started out with just one game Thursday, closing out the opening night of the tournament with an 11-1 drubbing of Dumas.

The Tigers out-hit the 4A Demons 15-3, with six Tigers collecting two base knocks each. The game was stopped in the sixth on the 10-run mercy rule.

Jordan Dea had the big wallop, crushing a solo shot over the green monster at Moffett, while going 2-for-4.

Blake Grimmett and Bradley Price also had a pair of hits, and Eric Martinez and Marcus Villarreal both hit two singles.

Isaac Ramon and Hadley Hirt both drilled a triple, and Alex Neal was 1-for-3.

“We hit the ball hard and played pretty well,” Bollinger said.

Ryan Mitchell went 3 1-3 innings, striking out three and giving up a run on two hits, to get the victory.

Dustyn Williams pitched two innings of relief, striking out three, and Lico Castillo recorded the final out.

The Tigers originally were slated to play Shallowater at 2 p.m. today.

In other games played on the first day of the Snyder Tournament, Lubbock Copper pummeled Post, 17-7, and topped Sweetwater, 8-2.

Perryton started 2-0, as they edged Wylie, 12-9, and blanked Sweetwater, 10-0. Pampa also beat Wylie, 16-7.

Shallowater edged Coahoma, 8-7, while Levelland got by Dumas, 11-1, and squeaked out a 7-5 victory over Canyon.

The Lady Tigers were slated to open their district schedule at 5 p.m. today at home against Lubbock Cooper.

No official decision has been made on the status of that contest.
