Western Texas College got off to a fast start at the Weatherford Rodeo Thursday, with seven top-five showings in the first round.
Clay Bunney sits atop the bareback riding standings after earning a 73 in the first round, and Guy Simonton was in third in the saddle bronc competition with a 73.
Trent Cormier and Tate Stratton are third and fourth, respectively, in bull riding at the end of the opening round. Cormier secured a 75, and Stratton was rewarded for his ride with a 73.
Cyndi Terry delivered a second-place ride in barrel racing with a time of 17.36 seconds. Marcie Wienke rode the circuit in 17.99 seconds for fifth.
Erin Anglin sits in fourth in goat-tying with a time of 9.4 seconds.
The rodeo is scheduled to run through Saturday, with the championship round slated for Saturday night.
