A Scurry County Jail inmate made an unsuccessful attempt at gaining freedom on Monday.
“The last time we had an attempted escape was about 10 years ago and that fellow only got about three blocks,” said Sheriff Darren Jackson. “This time he only got about a block and a half.”
Adam Morales Jr., 32, made the escape attempt as inmates were being brought back into the jail from the recreation area after morning exercise. Inmates are counted outside and counted again when brought inside. Morales ran back into the recreation yard and attempted to scale the chain link fence, cutting his hands on the rolls of razor wire in the process.
Morales was immediately spotted by Snyder patrolman Drew Price who made the notification. The police and sheriff’s department began the pursuit, which ended less than 150 yards away.
Morales was originally charged on March 4 with aggravated assault, family violence and possession of a firearm by a felon. An additional charges of escape from custody will be presented to the grand jury.
“This problem was solved in about two minutes,” said Jackson. “I would really like to thank the Snyder Police Department and recognize officers Price and Sgt. Brian Haggard for their quick response.”
