Early vote totals ended at only 444 for Tuesday’s primary election, but a good turnout is hoped for by local election officials at polling places Tuesday.
“I want to encourage everyone to get out and vote tomorrow,” said County Clerk Joan Bunch. “We’ve got a local race and the candidates have worked hard and they’re expecting everyone to vote who did not vote early.”
Megali Bernal and Jana Young are vying for the Republican nomination for Scurry County tax assessor-collector. The winner of Tuesday’s election will be the new tax assessor-collector on Jan. 1 as there is not a Democratic candidate.
“The weather is supposed to be nice tomorrow, so please vote,” said Bunch.
Bunch said voters should bring their registration cards to the polling locations, or some other form of identification.
“And remember, you can vote Republican or Democratic at any polling place,” said Bunch.
Of the 444 early votes, 382 voted on the Republican ticket and 62 cast Democratic ballost.
Besides the one locally contested race, voters also have a choice in the District 11 state representative’s race as Midland resident Mike Conaway is vying for the post, as is Brownwood resident Bill Lester.
Polls open Tuesday at 7 a.m. and will remain open until 7 p.m.
