The Snyder netters take the first step towards the state team tournament Friday when they open the regional team tennis competion in Levelland.

Despite the loss of several seniors from last, SHS head coach Ted Phillips feels like this year’s group has a shot at earning a spot from this region.

“I think our chances are good --we’ll be in the hunt,” he said. “There are 12 schools and the top three go to state, and we have beaten every one of these schools except Canyon, which we didn’t get to play.”

Number one players Tanner Reed and Andra Dunham, both of whom have played exceptionally well this year, will bolster Snyder.

Reed has dropped just two matches, while Dunham has been on the losing end only four times all year, and both are considered two of the top players in the region.

Should the Tigers qualify, they will head to College Station for the state team tournament March 12-13.

After state, Snyder will play Brownwood in a tournament, then begin the hunt for individual district qualifications.

Teams participating in the regional team tournament with Snyder are Fort Stockton, Monahans, Brownfield, Pecos, Lamesa, Seminole, Denver City, Slaton, Sweetwater, Canyon and Midland Greenwood.
