Friday is the final day to vote early in the March 9 primary elections.

Low voter turnout has been blamed on cool and wet weather.

As of noon today press time, 293 had voted early with 248 voting Republican and 45 casting votes in the Democratic primary.

Early voting continues at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. Friday in the county courtroom.

There is only one contested local race and that is on the GOP ballot.

Magali Bernal, chief deputy in the county clerk’s office, and Jana Young, a deputy in the tax assessor-collector’s office, are running for the tax office post to be vacated by Democrat Diana Williamson.
