Freshman Ryan Mitchell and senior Alex Neal combined for a five-inning no-hitter, and the Snyder Tigers banged out 14 hits in a 20-1 pasting of Lubbock Trinity Christian Tuesday.

Trinity’s only run was unearned.

“I thought we did a really good job -- our pitchers did a fine job of throwing strikes and everybody contributed,” head coach Charles Bollinger said. “It was a big confidence booster.”

Nine Tigers had at least one hit, and Snyder took advantage of seven walks and three hit batsmen to roll over a Trinity club that struggled to make plays on a cold and damp night at Moffett Field, committing four crucial errors that helped Snyder blow the game open.

Bollinger said the level of competition was not as much of a concern as how his players reacted in certain scenarios.

“I mainly look at how we perform in certain situations,” he said. “If we throw strikes and our defense makes plays, those are the keys to the game, regardless of who we play. I thought we did an excellent job.”

Bollinger was particularly pleased with the team’s clutch hitting.

“I’m proud of the job they did with runners in scoring position. (Trinity) threw three lefties, and our guys are taught to look opposite field or up the middle, and they did that well,” he said.

The Tigers put the game away with a 12-run third inning. Jordan Dea crushed a bases-loaded triple, and Blake Grimmett, who was 4-for-4 with four runs scored, had two hits in the inning.

Bradley Price walked three times and had a base hit, while Eric Martinez reached base three times, once on a single and twice after being hit by a pitch.

Alex Neal and Marcus Villarreal collected two hits each, and Hadley Hirt and Nathan Hernandez both slapped a base hit.

Isaac Ramon added a triple.

The Tigers will play in the Frenship Tournament beginning Thursday.

Ty Collier will get the start at 10:30 a.m. Thursday against Levelland.

The Tigers are slated to play Borger at 9 a.m. and Dumas at 12:30 p.m. Friday, and will take on Perryton Saturday.
