Parents and children gathered at Towle Memorial Park Monday for a walk around Towle pond to kick off the Walk for WIC, part of National Nutrition Month.
“We’re walking a mile around the pond. We have kids and grownups and it’s going to be a lot of fun,” said walk organizer Mary Rodriguez.
Rodriguez, along with Dawn Fish, works in the Snyder office of Outreach Health Services WIC Program.
National Nutrition Month is a nutrition education and information campaign sponsored annually by the American Dietetic Association. The campaign is designed to focus attention on the importance of making inf ormed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.
“We spend a lot of time with kids every day, but we have several special activities planned this month,” said Rodriguez.
“We will also be at the health fair at Snyder Day Care to be held later this month,” added Fish.
Participants in the Walk for WIC volunteered time to take part in the event as a portion of their nutritional classes at the WIC office.
