The two remaining 3-3A boys teams in the playoffs advanced Friday, with Denver City getting past Dimmitt and Merkel stopping Littlefield.

The Mustangs topped the Bobcats, 57-49, behind 21 points from post Ryan Ochesky and 20 from Kelsey Hinson.

The win sets up a regional quarterfinal showdown with second-ranked Midland Greenwood, which pummeled Lubbock Cooper, 75-50.

The teams will tip-off at 7:45 tonight at Odessa College.

The district champion and 10th-ranked Badgers took care of Littlefield, 48-39, with guard Riley Lambert hitting a game-high 23.

Merkel will play number eight Canyon at 7 tonight at Lubbock Cooper High School.

In the Region I girls finals, top-ranked Canyon hammered Muleshoe, 42-26, to advance to the state tournament. Winnsboro, Groesbeck and Liberty Hill also advanced to play at the Erwin Center on the University of Texas campus in Austin.

Winnsboro and Liberty Hall are slated to start at 2 p.m. Thursday, with Canyon and Groesbeck getting underway at 3:30.

The girls state championship game is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
