Western Texas College Fine Arts Department will present Parallel Lives: The Kathy and Mo Show, by Kathy Najimi and Mo Gaffney, for two performances opening at 7:30 p.m. Friday. and again Saturday evening at 7:30 at the WTC Fine Arts Theatre.
The two-woman play stars Amanda Mitchell as Kathy and Lacey Rowe as Mo. The comedy opens with two mid-management angels, given the task of creating the world by “the Big Guy”, beginning the process of two slightly sadistic suburban wives decorating a living room. With boundless humor, Parallel Lives examines the ongoing quest to find parity and love in a contest handicapped by capricious gods -- or in this case, goddesses.
“This play is a big change from our last production, The Mai, which was more dramatic. The humor is much lighter and slightly goofy. Lots of laughs,” said theatre director Ray Newton.
Mitchell and Rowe serve as tour guides for the audience with a variety of roles throughout the production including a pair of West Side Story-loving Brooklyn teens to a pair of Catholic schoolgirls, to middle-age housewives during the theatrical trip.
“The comedy is all over the place. I think the audience will really enjoy it,” said Newton.
Tickets are available at the WTC theatre box office. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students and senior citizens and WTC faculty and staff are free. Additional information is available by contacting the WTC fine arts department at 573-8511, ext. 234.
