Mrs. Fuentez

1930-2004

Anastacia Aguilar Fuentez of Snyder died Monday, Feb. 23, in Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock after a lengthy illness.

Services for Mrs. Fuentez, 74, are pending at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

Born Jan. 22, 1930 in Lubbock, she married Hilario Fuentez on Aug. 17, 1948 in Lubbock. He died Nov. 8, 2002. She also was preceded in death by a son, Miguel Fuentez.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include six daughters, Irene Canales and Anita Medina, both of Snyder, Rosie Martinez of Alice, Carol Barrera of Colorado City, Eva Salcido of Midland and Joanna Stone of Pampa; six sons, George, Luis, Johnny, Jimmy and Manuel Fuentez, all of Snyder, and Steve Fuentez of Alice; four brothers, Juan Aguilar of Johnstown, Colo., Frank, Marcelo and Benito Aguilar, all of Lubbock; two sisters, Margarita Lozano of Lubbock and Josephina Perez of San Angelo; 32 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

 


Dorothy Dennis

1915-2004

SAN ANGELO -- Mrs. Wiley Bert Dennis passed away on February 23. She was born Dorothy Lee Austin on March 15, 1915 in San Angelo, Texas. Her parents were Rose and Robert Austin. Her maternal and paternal grandparents, the H.R. Rowlands and the J.J. Austins, were among the first citizens of Tom Green County.

She attended schools in San Angelo, graduating from Central High, attending San Angelo Jr. College and San Angelo Business College. Later she attended Texas Tech University.

For five years she was secretary to Louis L. Farr, Jr., Manager of the Sawyer Cattle Company (Bar S Ranch). On September 9, 1938 she married Wiley Bert Dennis and they moved to Pecos County where the Dennis brothers, Jack, Bert and John, had entered into the ranch business. They first leased the Maud S. Kincaid (Saenger) ranch. Bert and Dorothy lived on this ranch for five years and in 1943 purchased a ranch in Borden County from Jack Canning.

Mrs. Dennis was active in all phases of ranch life and community affairs. She did extensive historical research on Borden County ranches and families for the Borden County Historical Society. Several of these papers appeared in historical magazines. She served as president of Altrurian Daughters Club in Snyder and in 1963 was president of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Auxiliary. She worked closely with the Miss Wool of Texas program and was named an honorary member of the Auxiliary. She was always closely associated with the Borden County school activities while her children were in school. She was also a member of the Martin Preuitt, Jr. chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Snyder. She was an avid needlepoint enthusiast and had her own shop in Snyder for eight years and was a member of the American Needlepoint Guild and the Embroiders’ Guild. She was a member of the First Christian Church in San Angelo.

In 1997, Dorothy published her autobiography, “In Pursuit of Happiness.” The book chronicles her memories of life in San Angelo and as a ranch wife in Pecos and Borden Counties.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert, in 1995.

She is survived by her children: Steve Dennis and his wife Nancy of Odessa, Joel Dennis and his wife Betty of Borden County, and Lisa Dennis Mahler and her husband Keith of San Angelo. Her four grandsons: Jeff Dennis of Lubbock, Bert Patrick Dennis of Odessa and Andrew Dennis Mahler and Matthew Lee Mahler of San Angelo. And nieces and nephews: Jenny Austin Dietrich of Houston, Colleen Foster Nickum of Tacoma, Washington, Robert Dennis of Bedford, David Dennis of Post, Mary Ann Dennis Awtry of Orange City, Iowas, Jacqui Dennis Whalen of Borden County, and Sally Munn Lacy of Water Valley.

The family wishes to thank Tina Huro and Marie Castro for their love and caring spirit during the last month of Dorothy’s life.

Family visitation will be from 7:00 to 9:00 Tuesday at Johnson’s Funeral Home.

Service: Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, in Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ben Hubert and Karen Schmeltekoph officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Canon, Mickey McMeans, Frank Beaver, Carl Dillaha, Rich Anderson, Bill Sims and Bill Nickum.

Memorials may be made to the Borden County Cemetery Fund, the Borden County EMS, the Borden County Historical Museum, Hope House of San Angelo, Hospice of San Angelo, or First Christian Church in San Angelo.

Beth Kea

1919-2004

DE LEON -- Vesta Elizabeth “Beth” Kea, a former Snyder resident, died Friday, Feb. 20, in a De Leon hospital.

Funeral service for Mrs. Kea, 84, was held Sunday in the Nowlin Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the De Leon Cemetery.

Born Aug. 2, 1919 in Desdemona, she married Wayne Kea on Sept. 10, 1938 in De Leon.

She was a long-time resident of De Leon and was a retired nurse and a member of the First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by a son, Melvin Kea; two brotherw, Webb Golden and Jader Golden; and one sister, Christine Brewer.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne Kea of De Leon; two sons, Gene Kea of Eastland and Jack Kea of Tyler; two brothers, Seborn Golden of De Leon and Jack Golden of Comanche; a sister, Frances Gilchrest of Sidney; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
