The Snyder varsity girls finished second in the Snyder Girls Invitational golf tournament, rallying on the back nine in the first round at Scurry County Golf Course before a rough second day at Western Texas College.
Andrews ran away from the field to take the top spot in the tournament, ending three strokes behind Snyder Friday before firing a 329 on Saturday to finish 29 shots ahead of the Lady Tigers.
The girls shot a 343 Friday, following it up with a 361 Saturday.
“Friday’s score was close to where we want to be,” head coach Ricky Hunter said. “All five of the girls played better on the back nine than on the front.”
Hunter said the team recovered at the turn from a slow beginning.
“Coming off the front side, it looked like it could be a disaster, but the girls responded and made it a respectable round.”
Saturday saw the team stumble out of the blocks.
“We got off to a slow start and never recovered,” Hunter said. “I did not do a very good job of getting the girls ready to play. We were in good position after Friday, but we did not close the deal on Saturday. This should get better with maturity.”
Cami Trout paced the ladies with an 88-84 172. Christi Williams carded a 79-97 176 and Brooke Jackson posted an 83-95 178.
Ashley Luecke fired a 93-91 184, and Shannon Mangis stroked a 95-91 186.
