A retired farmer from Terry County did more than just kick a few tires at Bill Wilson’s Big Country Autoland.

Melton Briscoe Jr. of Brownfield also pushed the GM “Hot Button” in a designated vehicle and became the winner of a 2004 Buick Rendezvous.

The nationwide promotion is tied to GM’s use of the OnStar global positioning system in many of its vehicles. Those pushing the “hot button” have the opportunity to win some 54 different models.

Bill Wilson III said there were 1,000 vehicles scattered around the country that contained the “Hot Button” during the months of January and February. The event ends next Monday.

“I’ve never won anything in my life,” said Briscoe. “When they told me I won, I didn’t believe it. I’m just now beginning to believe it.”

Briscoe and his wife Dee said they hadn’t told anyone <\!m> not even their children <\!m> about their good luck of winning a new automobile. “They sure will be surprised when they find out.”

Briscoe pushed the right button at the Snyder dealership last month, and the winner’s information was sent in for verification.

The Briscoes were presented their new car last week by Big Country Autoland.
