Over 130 lifters will descend on Scurry County Coliseum Saturday for the Snyder High School powerlifting meet.

Fourteen schools, including Snyder, will participate in the event, with 138 lifters set for the competition.

The meet will feature teams from Abernathy, Canyon, Colorado City, Frenship, Hamlin, Jim Ned, Levelland, Lubbock High, Post, Roscoe, Roby, Sweetwater and Winters.

Snyder will enter 16 athletes in the competition, including female lifters Katherine Johnson and Courtney Tyrrell.

Tony Pena will compete in either the 123-pound or 130-pound class, and Ricky Early will be the sole entry from SHS in the super heavyweight division.

Steven Martinez, Barrett Munson and Casey Newby will lift in the 148-pound class, and D’Angleo Davis, Will Floyd, Landry Matthies and Ricky Rios are entered in the 165-pound division.

John Birks and Chris Vera are set to compete in the 181-pound class. Johnny Vasquez will be in either the 181 or 198-pound division.

Jeffrey Martinez will be in either the 198 or 220-pound class, depending on tonight’s weigh-in, and Nate Clarady is the lone lifter for Snyder at 242.

The meet is slated to begin at 9 a.m. and is expected to run until 2 p.m.
