Western Texas College Fine Arts Department will present The Mai, which opens tonight at 7:30 at the WTC theatre.

The play follows the life of an accomplished, beautiful 40-year-old woman known as “The Mai”, played by Meagan Bailey, and her ne’er-do-well husband, Robert, played by Ryan Ballard.

The Mai waits by the window of her fairytale castle for the return of Robert, whom she considers the love of her life. The drama opens on the day of Robert’s return after an absence of four years.

Set in the inspiring surrounds of the West of Ireland, the tale intertwines the reunion with the idiosyncratic characters that comprise The Mai’s family, including the irreverent and unapologetic 100-year-old matriarch (played by Tedrick George) who presides over everyone with comical tenacity.

The audiences’ guide through the familial landscape is The Mai and Robert’s daughter, Millie, tenderly played by Rhealan Wagnon.

The production, the first of the spring semester, is upheld by a supporting cast that includes Brandy Birkenfeld, Amber Ward, Monica Rose and Cassandra Darlin.

The show will be presented nightly through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are available at the WTC theatre box office. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students and senior citizens and WTC faculty and students are free.
