The SJHS eighth-grade A team completed its season Monday, rolling over Denver City, 68-24, to finish the season with a spotless 16-0 record.

The team also went undefeated as seventh-graders, completing a 32-0 run through junior high.

The team beat its opponents this season by an average of 28 points a game.

“It’s pretty remarkable,” coach Charles Bollinger said. “They play with great teamwork and unselfishness. I told them last night that in 20 years, they will be known not for who scored, but for how great a team they were.”

As if to prove it, the team got scoring contributions from eight players, with three in double figures.

Blaine Knipe led the way with 15, Lance Day canned 13 and Ryan Claxton drained 10.

Travis Hatfield recorded nine points, while Brent Bollinger and Brooks Gafford knocked in eight apiece. Allen Jones finished with four and Dustin Murdock hit a free throw.
