Snyder is a town in Texas, but Oklahoma! is coming to the junior high school auditorium next week.
A joint production of the theatre and drama departments, the musical will be performed at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and Feb. 24.
Reserve tickets are $4 each and are available through the junior high office.
Marci Dennis is the choir director and Alisa Keller heads the drama department.
Richard Rogers wrote the music and the book and lyrics were written by Oscar Hammerstein II.
The musical is based on the play: Green Grow The Lilacs by Lynn Riggs with original dances by Agnes de Mille.
The play takes place in Oklahoma right at the turn of the century. The popular story, performed thousands of time since Oklahoma’s premier more than 50 years ago, centers around Cowboy Curly, played by Craig Robertson, and his contrary love Laurie (Cayelea Rhodes).
They are good friends who have a love/hate relationship and tease each other throughout the play. Both are too proud to admit their true feelings.
Jud Fry, played by Joseph Hefner, manages to complicate their love story.
A hilarious love triangle features Ado Annie, performed by Kristie Davis, the not-so-bright Will Parker (Corey Jaramillo) and Ali Hakim (Luke Robertson) as the Persian Peddler.
Songs include “People Will say We’re in Love”, “O What a Beautiful Morning”, “The Surrey with the Fringe on Top” and of course that bold hymn of the American Dream, “Oklahoma” itself.
Cast members include Jessica Bilderback, Craig Robertson, Cayelea Rhodes, Corey Jaramillo, Kristie Davis, Kendra Tidwell, Luke Robertson, Joseph Hefner, Jonathan Speegle, Jared Cave, Zane Green and Jon Ryan Hernandez.
