Melvin Howard

1920-2004

Funeral service for Melvin Howard, long-time Snyder resident, is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Danny Williams and Walter McCall will officiate. Burial will follow in the Ira Cemetery.

Mr. Howard, 83, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, at his home after a lengthy illness.

Born April 24, 1920 in Lawrence, Ala., Mr. Howard was a U.S. Army veteran and had retired after 33 years with Monsanto as an operator.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra McClellan of Midland; three sons, Richard Howard of Granbury, Melvin Howard of Montgomery and Anthony Howard of DeSoto; a sister, Flo Rasco of Snyder; a special friend, Coy Dee Mebane of Snyder; six grandchildren, Wendy Hunter of Snyder, Kelly Stultz of San Angelo, Nicole Van Buren of Cypress, Michael Howard and Ashley Howard, both of DeSoto, and Elizabeth Howard of Montgomery, Texas; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 this evening at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

Friends are contributing to Odyessy Hospice, 1510 S. Gregg in Big Spring, 79720.

 


Hazel Burg

1921-2004

DUBLIN -- Hazel Murdoch Burg, the sister of Paul Gray and the aunt of Gordon Gray, both of Snyder, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, at her home in Dublin.

Funeral service for Mrs. Burg, 83, is set for 10 a.m. Saturday in the Harrell Funeral Home Chapel with Steven Parker and James Cutrera officiating. Burial will follow in the DeLeon Cemetery.

Born Jan. 9, 1921 in Proctor, she married Marcus Burg on Jan. 25, 1990 in Stephenville.

A supervisor for the Green Thumb organization, she was a member of the Community Baptist Church in Dublin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rush and Gertie Gray; her first husband, R.G. Murdoch, in 1984; a daughter, Gerry Kay, on Oct. 2, 2003; four sisters; and one brother.

Survivors include her husband, Marcus Burg of Dublin; two sons, Ronald Murdoch of Abilene Johnny Gale Murdoch of Germany; two step-daughters, Kathy Stull of San Antonio and Joanie Burg of Washington, D.C.; two other brothers, R.O. Gray Jr. of Comanche and Jack Gray of Cisco; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

 


Augustina Perez

1939-2004

BROWNFIELD -- Augustina Perez, mother of Olga Rodriguez of Snyder, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, in Brownfield.

Rosary will be held for Mrs. Perez, 64, at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father Gerald Leatham officiating. Burial will follow in the Ropesville Cemetery under the direction of Mark A. Jones Funeral Home.

She was born on July 4, 1939 in Panna Maria, Texas where she attended school. She moved to Ropesville in 1967 and then to Brownfield in 2000. She married Ernesto D. Perez on Jan. 12, 1951 in Kennedy. Mrs. Perez was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Brownfield and the Gualapana, Crusista De Colores.

She was preceded in death by a son, Roberto Perez in 1992.

Survivors include her husband, Ernesto Perez of the home; two sons, Gilbert Perez of Ropesville and Roger Perez of Salt Lake City; six other daughters, Sylvia Palomo of Fort Worth, Norma Martinez, Juanita Torrez and Laurie Ann Perez, all of Odessa, Elia Blankenship of Haltom City and Rosa Linda Bustillos of Brownfield; three brothers, Able Escobedo of Wolfforth, Nieves Escobedo Jr. of Ropesville and Rosendo Escobedo of Floydada; three sisters, Alicia Mendez of Ropesville, Aurora Hernandez of Lubbock and Angelita Amaya of Kennedy; a son-in-law, Johnny Rodriguez of Snyder; 22 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

 


Goldie Glascock

1926-2004

MIDLAND -- Goldie Glascock, a former Snyder resident, died Wednesday, Feb. 11.

Funeral service for Mrs. Glascock, 77, is set for 10 a.m. Saturday in the Memorial Christian Church with Dr. Don Childers officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.

Born Nov. 12, 1926 in Whitt, Texas, her parents died at an early age and she and her siblings were reared in the Methodist Home for Children in Waco. She was a 1946 graduate of Waco High School and attended business school in Amarillo.

She married Les “Whitey” Glascock in 1949 in Weatherford. The Glascocks both were employed by Texaco and they lived in Farmington, N.M. and Snyder before moving to Midland. Mr. Glascock died in 2000.

Survivors include two sons, Lenny Glascock of Fort Worth and Alan Glascock of Midland; two sisters, Letty Minear of Denton and Maudie Webb of Amarillo; and two grandchildren.

 


Roy Richardson

1911-2004

ARTESIA, N.M. -- Roy A. Richardson, the brother of Joyce Cooper of Snyder, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, at his home in Artesia.

Funeral service for Mr. Richardson, 92, was set for 10 a.m. today in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Duerksen officiating. Interment was to follow in the Woodbine Cemetery.

Born Oct. 5, 1911 in Rockwood, he married Era Hill in Santa Anna on June 12, 1938. She died April 19, 1990.

A resident of Artesia since 1949, Mr. Richardson was a banker for 60 years, serving as executive vice president and director of Peoples State Bank and Western Bank. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lions Club, Masonic Lodge and chamber of commerce.

Survivors include two other sisters, Loyce Phenix of Mission and Edith Jennings of San Angelo.
