In addition to having deep roots in West Texas, Hatfield can trace his family history back to the original feuding families, the Hatfields and McCoys.

Ironically, Hatfield collaborated with renowned harmonica player Charlie McCoy to pen a song on his latest album called The Hatfields and The McCoys.

“Since I am a descendant of the Hatfields and the famous feud, it gave me additional incentive to come up with a song that I could be proud of and which would be released as a successful single,” Hatfield said.

The single, which will debut on Sunday, is a timely release as buzz begins to build around the film remake of the 1975 movie Hatfields and McCoys. Plan B Productions is planning the film as a venue for the production company’s owners Brad Pitt and Jennifer Anniston. The film will be the first project or Pitt and Anniston’s Plan B. As an authentic ancestor, Hatfield believes the melding of the two projects is a unique opportunity.

“Timing and lineage just happens to work in my favor in this case. I’m excited to see how the film remake depicts the feud that I’ve, in a way, put to rest. I also think my single would compliment the story really well and I hope the studio feels the same way,” said Hatfield.

No formal connection has been made between the Hatfield projects as of yet, but initial plans have been made at Blue Moon Records, Hatfield’s label, to pitch the song for the upcoming film’s soundtrack.

Hatfield is planning his next release in a few months entitled Vince.

He plans to make appearances with Charlie McCoy at future shows.
