Following a half-hour executive session, Snyder ISD trustees Thursday evening unanimously extended the contract of all recommended administrators.

Supt. Ronny Collins made the recommendations.

Contracts extended were those of Rod Cottrell, executive director of curriculum and special programs; and Karen Waller, executive director of business and finance.

Dr. Melissa Jones, who is currently the director of personnel and whose contract expires in 2005, was not recommended for a contract extension.

Dr. Collins had said earlier that Jones had told him she did not plan to come back to the district this next school year. Collins also said that her position might possibly be absorbed depending upon the budget and enrollment. In open session Thursday night, there was no discussion about the position.

Other administrative contracts approved for the one-year extension to expire June 30, 2006 are those of Larry Scott, SHS principal; assistant SHS principals Bill Bell and Al Phillips; junior high principal Kellye Starnes; Ralph Ramon, assistant junior high principal; Thomas Fogleman, West principal; Carmen Carpenter, Northeast principal; Pam Hart, Central principal; and Jean McMillon, Stanfield principal.

Also Dixie Haggard, director of special programs; and Chad Rogers, athletic director and head football coach had their contracts extended for the same period.

The administrative employment agreement with Mike Carter, director of maintenance and transportation, was extended one year to expire June 30, 2005.

The principal at East Elementary, Lee Presswood, is a contract employee and his contract will be considered at a later date.

The board also approved the resignation of junior high science teacher Sonja Hanks who has accepted a position with the Windham School District.

Trustees also met in closed session to discuss a settlement with Gerber Life Insurance Co., and Icon Benefit Management. In open session, the board approved the settlement of $90,000.

In one other action item, the board approved the order for the May 15 trustee election as the terms of at-large members Luann Burleson and Cathy Peoples are expiring.

Betty Morgan will serve as the early voting clerk and Frank Miller will serve as the election judge.

Waller also presented the monthly financial report and asked the board to consider a policy change to allow district money to be invested in other state pools than TexPool in hopes of getting a higher interest rate.

“And I don’t like having all our money in one place,” added Waller.

The board could consider a resolution to that effect next month.

Board president Mark McCormick presided and members present were Burleson, Peoples, Richard Chambers, Glenn Clarady and Mike Levens. Doug Neff was absent.
